All of us have a past. In fact the sentence you just read is already in the past. So why is it when it comes to our own life, we cling to the past and relive it in our mind as if it were happening now? This holds true for moments we relish, just the same as it does for events we wish didn’t occur. I am not suggesting that you believe your past didn’t exist, or that it didn’t happen as you remember. And I am not saying there are not injustices in the world. However, I am suggesting that what happened, happened and the reason that memory has power is because of the meaning you give it, not the events that took place. More times than not it is the memories that cause us the most pain that we remember over and over again in our mind. Playing out the scenario of what happened and what we could have said or done differently. Or maybe we remember how someone hurt us and we start to feel the emotions so strong that we have a visceral response in our body. When we are able to realize at a deep level that the reason our memories have power over us is because of the meaning we attach to them and not what happened, we can begin to release ourselves from the past and the grip it has on us.
Find your truth.
